September Events in Tampa (2026)

September in Tampa is that funny time of year when the calendar says fall…but the weather still says summer.
Fortunately, that doesn't stop Tampa Bay from getting into the season.
September 2026 is packed with things to do, including Labor Day weekend events, Tampa Bay Comic Convention, concerts, markets, live music, sports, and the beginning of Halloween season.
Whether you're looking for a family outing, date night, free event, or something different to do this weekend, here are some of the best events happening around Tampa in September 2026.
Tampa Bay Rodeo & Family Festival
Kick off Labor Day weekend with two nights of rodeo action.
The first-ever Fall Tampa Bay Rodeo & Family Festival is coming to the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds September 4 and 5 as part of the continuing America 250 celebration.
The event features full rodeo competition, including:
- Bull riding
- Bronco busting
- Barrel racing
- Calf roping
- Family entertainment
If you're looking for something outside the usual Tampa weekend routine, this could be a fun way to start September.
Best For: Families, country fans, or a different kind of date night.
Tampa Bay Comic Convention
Calling all superhero, anime, sci-fi, gaming, and cosplay fans.
Tampa Bay Comic Convention takes over the Tampa Convention Center for Labor Day weekend.
The annual convention brings together artists, vendors, celebrities, panels, cosplay, collectibles, and thousands of pop-culture fans.
And even if you've never been to a comic convention before, the costumes alone can make this a pretty entertaining way to spend the day.
Make a Day of It: After the convention, walk along the Tampa Riverwalk or head toward Water Street for dinner.
Rock the Park
One of our favorite free Tampa events returns in September.
Rock the Park is Tampa's monthly free outdoor concert series featuring musicians from a variety of genres.
Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, find a spot overlooking the Hillsborough River, and enjoy live music downtown.
It's also easy to turn this into a date night.
Grab dinner downtown → head to the concert → walk the Riverwalk afterward.
And did we mention it's free?
Mayor's Food Truck Fiesta
If you work downtown or simply really like food trucks, add this one to the calendar.
The Mayor's Food Truck Fiesta brings a rotating lineup of local food trucks into downtown Tampa on the first Wednesday of the month.
Grab lunch, find somewhere outside to eat, and try something from a Tampa-area restaurant or food truck you haven't had before.
It's an easy midweek outing and a good excuse to get away from your desk for an hour.
Downtown's Backyard Market
Another free downtown event to add to September's calendar is Downtown's Backyard Market.
The monthly market brings local vendors and small businesses into the heart of downtown.
Stop by during lunch, browse the vendors, grab something to eat, and explore downtown afterward.
If you're already working or spending the day in the city, this is an easy event to add to your afternoon.
Sounds of the Street at Water Street Tampa
Want a free September date night?
Head to Water Street for Sounds of the Street.
The outdoor event brings live entertainment into one of Tampa's most walkable downtown districts.
Go for the music and stay for dinner, drinks, or a walk toward Channelside and the Riverwalk.
Date Night Idea: Sounds of the Street → dinner around Water Street → sunset walk along the waterfront.
Bruno Mars – The Romantic Tour
One of September's biggest concerts comes to Tampa for two nights.
Bruno Mars brings The Romantic Tour to Raymond James Stadium September 12 and 13.
If you're planning on going, we'd expect the areas surrounding Raymond James Stadium to be extremely busy before and after the shows.
Make dinner reservations early, give yourself plenty of time to park, and don't expect to make a quick exit after the concert.
Best For: A big Tampa date night or girls' night out.
Luke Bryan
Country fans have a big September concert to add to the calendar too.
Luke Bryan comes to the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre on September 10.
September evenings in Tampa can still be hot, so dress accordingly if you're sitting outside and remember that an afternoon thunderstorm isn't unusual this time of year.
The Strokes
September 12 is going to be a busy night around Tampa.
While Bruno Mars takes over Raymond James Stadium, The Strokes are scheduled to perform downtown at Benchmark International Arena.
If you're heading downtown, make a full evening of it.
Grab dinner around Water Street or Sparkman Wharf before the show, then walk around the waterfront afterward.
Red Bull Dance Your Style National Final
One of September's more unique events comes to the Tampa Convention Center on September 19.
Red Bull Dance Your Style is an all-styles, one-on-one street dance competition where dancers have to adapt to the music in real time.
The format puts a huge emphasis on freestyle, musicality, personality, and crowd connection.
If you've been looking for something completely different to do in Tampa, put this one on the list.
Girls in Aviation Day
Have a kid who's fascinated by airplanes?
Girls in Aviation Day is scheduled for September 19 and is a particularly good addition to the calendar for families interested in aviation and STEM.
It's also one of several free Tampa events happening that weekend, making it worth watching as September gets closer.
Tampa Bay Black Authors Expo
Book lovers can check out the 5th Annual Tampa Bay Black Authors Expo on September 19.
The free community event celebrates authors and literature while giving visitors an opportunity to discover writers and connect with Tampa Bay's literary community.
Pair it with lunch downtown and you've got an easy Saturday afternoon outing.
Sunshine Market at Midtown Tampa
Spend Saturday morning exploring the Sunshine Market at Midtown Tampa.
Expect a mix of local makers, vendors, food, and small businesses.
After browsing the market, grab brunch or lunch around Midtown and make an afternoon of it.
This is an especially easy option if you want something to do without buying tickets to another attraction or festival.
Beats on the Street
Head back downtown September 26 for Beats on the Street.
This free Water Street event gives you another opportunity to enjoy live entertainment outdoors while exploring downtown Tampa.
Once the temperatures start dropping later in the evening, walk over to the Tampa Riverwalk or Sparkman Wharf.
Sunday Morning Market at Westshore Marina District
End the month with a slower Sunday morning.
The Sunday Morning Market at Westshore Marina District is scheduled for September 27 and makes for an easy weekend outing.
Grab coffee, browse local vendors, and walk around the waterfront district before the afternoon heat kicks in.
Halloween Season Begins in Tampa 🎃
September also means something very important:
Spooky season is officially here.
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Howl-O-Scream traditionally begins its annual run in September, bringing haunted houses, scare zones, entertainment, and nighttime coaster rides to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.
It's a separately ticketed nighttime event and definitely aimed more toward people who actually want to be scared than families with little kids.
September is also when you'll start seeing more pumpkin patches, haunted attractions, and Halloween events announce or begin their 2026 seasons.
If fall is your favorite time of year, this is when Tampa's seasonal calendar really starts getting interesting.
A Perfect September Weekend in Tampa
Want to make a whole weekend out of exploring Tampa?
Here's an easy itinerary.
Friday Night: Head downtown for dinner around Water Street or Sparkman Wharf, then walk along the Riverwalk.
Saturday Morning: Grab coffee and visit a local market.
Saturday Afternoon: Explore Hyde Park Village, Ybor City, or one of Tampa's museums.
Saturday Night: Catch a concert, sporting event, festival, or seasonal attraction.
Sunday Morning: Brunch followed by a walk around Bayshore Boulevard or one of Tampa's waterfront parks.
And if the heat is brutal?
Move the outdoor activities to early morning and evening and find somewhere with air conditioning for the afternoon.
That's the Florida way.
Don't Forget About Tampa Sports
September is also when Tampa sports start getting interesting.
Football season is underway, USF athletics are back, and there are still opportunities to catch baseball early in the month.
The Tampa Tarpons, for example, have a home series against Dunedin at George M. Steinbrenner Field beginning September 1.
And with football season arriving, weekends around Tampa start feeling noticeably different.
If you're planning an outing around a major game or concert, check traffic before leaving home, especially around Raymond James Stadium.
September Weather in Tampa: What to Know
Here's your reminder that September in Tampa is fall in name only.
Expect heat.
Expect humidity.
And expect afternoon thunderstorms.
If you're attending an outdoor event, bring water, sunscreen, and lightweight clothing.
For daytime markets and festivals, we usually recommend going earlier in the morning when possible.
And always check the weather before heading out. A perfectly sunny Tampa morning can turn into a thunderstorm a few hours later.
September Is Just the Beginning of Fall in Tampa Bay
September is really the warm-up.
By the end of the month, Tampa Bay's fall calendar starts filling up with pumpkin patches, corn mazes, fall festivals, Halloween events, outdoor markets, and seasonal activities.
And once we finally get those first slightly cooler evenings?
That's when outdoor season in Tampa really starts getting good.
